Free Precision: Six Positions in Abstract Art
With paintings and sculptures by six artists, our new exhibition FREE PRECISION presents two seemingly opposing styles within abstract art: the geometric-structural and the gestural-spontaneous. Yet both share a common ground: they follow their own inner logic, a self-determined precision—whether consciously planned or intuitively perceived.
Acrylic paintings by Horst Bartnig, one of the most important representatives of Concrete Art, along with acrylic works and miniature collages by Ines Doleschal, captivate through the diversity of geometric combinations, their rhythmic structures, and refined use of color. A similar aesthetic approach is reflected in the strictly geometric, partly movable, and color-accentuated stainless steel and acrylic objects by the sculptor Wolfram Beck, who was also a master of technical craftsmanship and precision.
German Informel is represented in the exhibition by works of Marie-Louise von Rogister, one of the notable painters of this movement. Her textured works on canvas and paper, like the vibrant paintings of Gerhart Hein, appear to be the result of spontaneous gesture. Yet they are grounded in a thoughtful understanding of form and color.
With black-and-white photographs by Gunda Scheel, photography celebrates its premiere at “Möwe.” The artist worked exclusively with analog techniques. Everyday objects and familiar places undergo a mysterious, poetic transformation in her images, at times becoming abstract patterns and structures.
We warmly invite you and your friends to the opening of our exhibition on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 6 pm, at our gallery space at Kurfürstendamm 71. The art historian and independent curator Marta Smolińska, who wrote her habilitation thesis on non-representational painting, will deliver the laudatory speech. We look forward to your visit!
