Dieter Finke. Works of Art in Wood

The Berlin sculptor and painter Dieter Finke (1939 – 2011) created a varied and fascinating oeuvre, which illustrates his exceptional way of handling the materials paper, wood, and bronze.
 
When in our last year’s solo exhibition we gave a survey of the great variety of the materials in Finke’s works of art, our forthcoming presentation will be devoted to his works in wood, so full of variety, iridescent between abstraction and representativeness, between the plane and the three-dimensional.
 
In his large-format portraits of animals, Finke increased the impression of naturalness, wildness, and expressiveness, treating them, in a final work circle, with a chain saw. In paintings as well as in sculptures, Finke accepted the structures existing in the wood, lending to them, in the process of treatment, his unmistakable trademark.
 
We invite you and your friends to take part in the opening of our exhibition on Wednesday, 4 September, at 6 p.m. The art scholar Prof. Dr. Hubertus von Amelunxen will give the laudatory speech.
